Hop into Easter: Behind the Wheels of the Alleluia Baskets Hop Up Trailer
The Hop Up Trailer has become one of the most meaningful and tangible ways Alleluia Baskets connects with the community. What started as a simple idea of bringing baskets directly to people - has grown into a powerful outreach effort that meets individuals and families right where they are. Instead of waiting for recipients to come to us, the trailer allows us to go out into neighborhoods, churches, and gathering spaces to deliver care, dignity, and hope in person.
At the heart of this work is the mission of Alleluia Baskets: to provide joy and a brighter tomorrow for the children and senior citizens who are in need with the gift of a filled Easter basket while building a community of respect and dignity for them, the donors and volunteers. This mission is something that is lived out at every Hop Up Trailer stop, in every interaction, and through every basket given.
This year, the Hop Up Trailer reached five locations: Hillsboro, Bonne Terre, Immaculate Conception of Old Monroe, and Holy Name of Jesus. Each stop represented more than just a distribution point - it was an opportunity to build relationships, listen to stories, and share encouragement. Across these locations, a total of 375 baskets were distributed, each one thoughtfully prepared to meet real needs. Behind every number is a person, a family, and a moment of connection that matters.
What makes the Hop Up Trailer especially impactful is its intentional planning. Each location is selected well in advance, allowing Alleluia Baskets to thoughtfully prepare, coordinate with community partners, and ensure that every stop is meaningful and effective. The trailer becomes more than a vehicle - it transforms into a mobile hub of generosity. Recipients at Immaculate Conception, Hilsboro and Holy Name of Jesus were able to stop the Hop Up Trailer while already visiting these locations for their food pantry needs. Volunteers gather around the trailer, conversations happen beside it, and for many recipients, it becomes a symbol of being seen and cared for.
Of course, something this meaningful doesn’t happen without a story behind it - and the story of the Hop Up Trailer is one worth celebrating. The funds for the trailer were raised through Luke’s Mission for Alleluia Baskets, led by an incredible young supporter, Luke Flerlage. Through his efforts, including a “Trivia Afternoon for Alleluia Baskets,” Luke rallied his community and turned a simple idea into something lasting and impactful.
Luke’s Mission for Alleluia Baskets is a powerful reminder that generosity has no age limit. His initiative not only raised money; but created a huge momentum for Alleluia Baskets. Because of his vision and determination, Alleluia Baskets gained a tool that continues to serve hundreds of people each year. The trailer stands as a testament to what can happen when someone decides to take action for a mission they truly believe in.
The ripple effect of Luke’s Mission for Alleluia Baskets continues today. Every basket distributed from the Hop Up Trailer carries forward the spirit of Luke’s original effort. It’s not just about what’s inside the basket - it’s about the story of how it got there, and the community that made it possible. That’s what makes this outreach so special: it’s built on layers of generosity, each one strengthening the next.
Luke has also taken an active role in the outreach itself, especially when connecting with recipients. When someone asks, “What is Alleluia Baskets?” he genuinely enjoys sharing the mission and explaining the heart behind the organization. His enthusiasm and willingness to engage create meaningful moments of connection, helping others understand not just what Alleluia Baskets provides, but why it exists.
At each stop this year, volunteers showed up ready to serve. Whether it was organizing baskets, greeting recipients, or helping load items into cars, their presence made all the difference. The Hop Up Trailer may be the vehicle, but it’s the people surrounding it who bring the mission to life. Their willingness to give their time and energy ensures that every interaction is filled with kindness and respect.
Recipients often express gratitude not just for the baskets themselves, but for the experience of receiving them. There’s something powerful about a face-to-face moment - a smile, a conversation, a simple “We’re glad you’re here.” These small interactions can leave a lasting impact, reminding individuals that they are not alone and that their community cares deeply about them.
The five locations served this year each brought their own unique energy. From the welcoming spirit in Hillsboro to the strong sense of community in Bonne Terre, every stop added a new layer to the story of the Hop Up Trailer. At Immaculate Conception of Old Monroe and Holy Name of Jesus, the outreach extended even further, connecting with individuals who may not have otherwise had access to these resources.
As Alleluia Baskets continues to grow, the Hop Up Trailer will remain a central part of its mission. It represents a commitment to meeting needs in practical, accessible ways. It also serves as a reminder that sometimes the most effective way to help is simply to show up - consistently, compassionately, and with open hands.
Looking ahead, there is so much potential for this outreach to expand. More locations, more volunteers, and more opportunities to serve are all within reach. And with each new stop, the impact multiplies. What began through Luke’s Mission for Alleluia Baskets has become a cornerstone of the organization’s work, touching lives in ways that are both immediate and lasting.
As we reflect on this year’s outreach, the numbers tell an important story: 375 baskets distributed across five locations. But beyond the numbers are the moments that can’t be measured - the conversations, the smiles, and the connections that continue to strengthen the community.
We are deeply grateful for the volunteers who make the Hop Up Trailer possible. Their generosity, time, and dedication are the driving force behind every successful stop and every basket delivered. It is because of them that Alleluia Baskets can continue to live out its mission in such a meaningful way.
